Shelbie Bouck, LCMHC, smiling beneath a tree in a sunlit field

Hi, I’m Shelbie.

I’m so glad you made it this far into your search for a therapist.

Meeting the right therapist is like going on a first date: you don’t know if it is going to work or not, which can be scary! So, let me tell you a little about me to help you decide if we might be a good fit.

Shelbie Bouck, LCMHC · Licensed in Utah & Idaho

Utah-grown, well-traveled

I grew up in Utah, but have traveled and lived in many other places; giving me the understanding that Utah culture is very different from the rest of the world. If you’re looking for someone with perspective on the impact of that, we could have some interesting discussions.

I have been married, divorced, and remarried (happily, this time); so having a blended family is something that I am very familiar with. I have 2 beautiful daughters who light up my world and keep me on my toes. The history I have with marriage and divorce is one of the main reasons I’m so passionate about relationships; I find real fulfillment in watching transformation happen.

How I work

I call it as I see it.

I have spent my years as a therapist learning which clients tend to be the best fit for my approach. I’m a very direct therapist, I call it as I see it, which in relational therapy produces the most results.

“People don’t get divorced because they can’t communicate, people get divorced because they can’t resolve conflict.”

Trauma. I treat trauma with an open perspective; getting down to the root cause by exploration, somatic work, and internal family systems.

Relationships & couples. With relationship and couples therapy I take an emotion-focused approach.

OCD. I treat OCD with the gold standard exposure and response prevention protocol.

Now, let’s talk about sex.

Intimacy is crucial – in your relationships and with yourself. I know that it is a taboo subject (especially growing up in Utah) but I can make this feel as easy as discussing the weather.

Open, honest communication about what goes on behind closed doors can deepen your understanding of your partner and yourself.

These are only some of the main things that come up in therapy. I have seen and healed many things over the course of my practicing years, and I would love to help you too.
